Smith, Harold B., 96, retired City of Wichita employee, passed away Friday, May 08, 2009. Funeral service is 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Poplar Avenue Church of Christ. Harold joined the Army in 1937. He fought at Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. He rose in ranks from Private to 1st Lieutenant. His awards include 2 Purple Hearts, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Field Commendation and Combat Infantry Badge. Survivors include his wife of 68 years Viola and many nieces and nephews. In Lieu of flowers, memorial is to Hospice Care of Kansas, 808 S. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67211.
