Beckett, Carolyn (Morris), 83, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, died Thursday, May 10, 2007. Service 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 15, Downing Lahey Mortuary East. A native Wichitan, Carolyn was a teacher, realtor and author of “If You Live with Little Children” and How to Teach Children to Swim”, both published by Putnam and Sons. Carolyn lived in California for 38 years. While raising her three children and running a backyard nursery school, Carolyn resumed her college studies and received her B.A. in Education. She went on to receive her Masters in Childhood Education from San Francisco State University and began teaching evening classes at the College of San Mateo. She moved back to Wichita and became a realtor. Carolyn loved gardening, giving parties and taking care of family and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, William A. and May (Arnett) Morris, sister, Eloise McMurty and son, David M. Kauffman. Survivors: husband, Jim Beckett; son, James H. Kauffman (Priscilla) of Florence, Italy; daughter, Elizabeth Kay of Wichita; step-son, Russ Beckett (Sally) of Andover, KS; sister, Mary Margaret Boyd (Jim) of Wichita, KS; grandchildren, Casey Kauffman and Clara Kauffman; step-grandchildren, Danny Beckett and Sam Beckett. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with National Public Radio, 635 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington DC, 20001 and Catholic Care Center, 6550 E. 45th N. Bel Aire, KS, 67226.
