Brown, Donnie Calvert, 95, of Wichita, KS, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Donnie moved to Wichita from Harlingen, TX, in 2008. She spent most of her adult life in Dallas, including almost 50 years in Oak Cliff. She was an avid reader with a lifelong thirst for knowledge, but it was her family that mattered most to her. She was everything a mother should be: intelligent, generous, kind, loving, and wise. Donnie was an active member of Episcopal churches wherever she lived and joined St. Stephens in Wichita. She was a frequent contributor to the Wichita YWCA Womens Crisis Center. Donnie was often cited for her church work and especially treasured her volunteer service with Native American youth in Dallas. Donnie was an avid bridge player and belonged to many bridge clubs in the Dallas and Harlingen, TX, areas. In 2001 she received the American Contract Bridge Leagues Ace of Clubs award as a NABA master player. She is survived by three of her four sons: Randy (Linda Parks) of Wichita; Gary of Arlington, TX; and Bobby (Marjie) of Austin, TX. Survivors also include six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas and son Larry, who died in Wichita in 2002. A memorial service will be held at the Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6000 S. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, at noon on Wednesday, Sept.5, with a graveside service following.
