Aring, Kathleen A. “Kathy” (Shay), passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012. Kathleen was born in Wichita, Kansas on January 18, 1951. Preceding her in death were her parents Douglas E. and Virginia N. Shay, both of Wichita. Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Jack, brothers Martin (Nancy) Shay, Fr. Michael Shay, SDS, Dennis (Judith) Shay, John (Janet) Shay, Thomas (Margaret) Shay, Joseph (Connie) Shay and David (Jacqueline) Shay, 21 nieces and nephews and 30 grand nieces and nephews. Kathy was a former social worker through Wichita SRS for 20 years and a social worker with VIA CHRISTI St. Joseph Campus for 14 years. She loved working with different families and their children. She had a passion particularly for children and was devoted to providing the best possible service they could receive. She loved her job. A private Rosary for family members will be held. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 124 N. Roosevelt, Wichita, Kansas. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Wichita, Kansas. Memorials may be made in her name to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 South Market, Wichita, Kansas, 67202, or Kansas Food Bank, 1919 East Douglas, Wichita, Kansas, 67211, or Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, 14 Pennsylvania Plaza, S-1710, New York, NY, 10122. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.

  1. Kathy was one of the most ethical and caring person I know. She was my Social Work partner @ St. Joseph, when I moved into Acute Care there as a Case Manager. Kathy taught me so much and helped me to grow as a professional. I will miss her. My sympathies to all of her extended family.
