Dorothy V. Brunson, age 94, went home to be with the Lord on December 19, 2017. After experiencing a stroke at home on July 18, 2017, which only affected her speech and comprehension, she spent the last 5 months of her life under the amazing care of the staff at Regent Park in Wichita. She worked hard to improve her speech and enjoyed her life there, greeting fellow residents and staff with a smile until the end. Dorothy was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on May 9, 1923, moving to Wichita in 1935, and graduating from Wichita (East) High School in May 1941. During World War II, she worked for the Air Force in the building now housing the Wichita Air Museum. In 1947, she was working as a receptionist at an oil company downtown when the love of her life, William S. Brunson, walked in and ultimately invited her to lunch. After a whirlwind romance, they were married on March 12, 1948 and enjoyed 47 years together until Bill went home to be with the Lord in 1995. Neither of them finished college to their mutual regret and they determined to make education a priority for their children. They were among the founding parents of what became Wichita Collegiate School and Dorothy served on the Board of Trustees for 26 years. During that time, Dorothy was also active in Junior League, part of the founding families of Wichita Swim Club, while being committed to be a full-time mother to her 3 children. Dorothy is survived by her children, Pamela L. Brunson of Blue Eye, Missouri, Karen B. (Chuck) Hohman, of Western Springs, Illinois and Paul H. (Linda) Brunson of Wichita, Kansas. She has 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul C. and Ora D. Voigt, and her husband, William S. Brunson. Services will be held on January 6, 2018 at First Evangelical Free Church, 1825 N Woodlawn, Wichita, KS 67208 at 10:00 am followed by a private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Wichita Collegiate School, 9115 E 13th Street, Wichita, KS 67206 or Trinity Academy, 12345 E 21st Street, Wichita, KS 67206.
