Arnold, Don R., 87, born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, died Saturday, December 21, 2013. During WWII, Don served in the North Atlantic Theatre in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was honorably discharged. His career involved being Journeyman Machinist for Canadian National Railways for 15 years. While on the railroad, he served in the Trade Union movement. He assisted in the merger of the two largest trade union groups in Canada. He represented Monarch Life Assurance as a District Manager for 4 years. In 1961 he entered the Alcoholism Treatment field in Saskatchewan. In 1967 he came to Norton, KS to co-start Valley Hope Treatment Center. He started the Alcoholism Treatment Unit in 1975. Within 3 years the unit had grown to 80 beds. He married Virginia in 1974 with a blended family of 7 children. He retired in 1994. He was President of AD Counselors and Counselor of the Year. Don had 57 years of sobriety at the time of his death. Preceded in death by his parents, George and Christine Arnold; wife, Virginia Arnold; children, Doug Love and Maureen Campbell. He is survived by his children, Raymond Arnold (Penny) KC, KS, Rick Arnold of OKC, OK, Matthew Love, Sara Love, both of Wichita; sister, Marlene of Canada; 11 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Visitation with the Family will be from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Friday, December 27, 2013, at Downing Lahey East Mortuary. Memorial Service will be at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Reformation Lutheran Church. A memorial has been established with Reformation Lutheran Church, 7601 E. 13th St. N., Wichita, KS 67206.
