June Hays Lindsey

Lindsey, June Hays, 97, a former Topeka USD 501 Elementary teacher for 37 years, died Thursday, February 7, 2013 in Wichita, Kansas. Graveside service will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, February 11, 2013, at Mount Hope Cemetery. She was a graduate of Southwestern College, Winfield, KS, and did graduate work at Washburn University, Emporia State University, and Kansas University. She was born and raised in Preston, Kansas, and was the daughter of Loyal and Goldie Hays. Her husband, Wayne, preceded her in death in 1990. Mrs. Lindsey was a 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church; Life member of the Kansas Teachers Association; Topeka Teachers Association; 50 year member of Order of Eastern Star; former member of Topeka Civic Symphony for 25 years; past President of Stormont-Vail Auxiliary, volunteer at Stormont-Vail for over 30 years with over 10,000 hours, and a recipient of the Stormont-Vail Auxilian Award; member of the American Association of University Women. Mrs. Lindsey moved to Larksfield Heath Care Center in Wichita in November 2011 to be closer to family. Along with her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wendell Hays. She is survived by: niece, Susan (Clark) Ensz of Wichita; nephew, Larry W. (Barbara) Hays of McPherson, KS; great-nieces and nephews, Lyle Hays, Kristen Boyle-Mitchell, and Robinson Ensz.
