Jean Bachus

Jean Bachus, 87, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home May 21, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband Abraham J Bachus, parents, John and Pearl Dunlop, brothers, James, Kenneth, Robert and sisters, Mary, Claire,and Jessie. Jean was born in Detroit, KS and obtained her pilots license after moving to Wichita in 1942. There she worked as a secretary for Boeing prior to marrying the love of her life in 1950. Her husband, Abe was a prominent businessman, owner of the A.J. Bachus Scrap, Metal, and Iron Co.in Wichita. Jean and Abe were members of Ahavath Achim Hebrew Congregation, enjoyed traveling worldwide, and established a generous academic scholarship fund for WSU students. Jean was an avid reader, loved working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and enjoyed her community life at Highland House for 34 years. Survivors: daughters Vickie Bert (Jeffrey) of Calabasas, CA and Diana Furman (Richard) of Miami, FL; sister, Jane Canfield of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Michele, Jeremy, Aaron, and Joanna. A memorial service was held at Downing Lahey Mortuary East on May 23, followed by graveside services at Hebrew Cemetery. A memorial has been established with AJ and Jean Bachus Scholarship Fund, Attn: Elizabeth King, C/O Wichita State University, 1845 Fairmount, Wichita, KS 67206.
Burial will follow the service at The Hebrew Cemetery.

Diana and Vicky,, I was so sorry to see that your Mother had passed. Your Father is buried very close to mine in the mausoleum and I always think of you when I see it. We were out of town during the time of your Mom’s death, so I’m sorry I wouldhave loved to have seen you at the memorial service.

Dear Diana & Vickie, I saw the newspaper article regarding your mother’s passing and I want to extend my sincere sympathies. Losing a parent is difficult. My memories of your parents when we were in junior high at Brooks was how warm and kind they were whenever I visited. Wishing you both blessings and my prayers.
