Delores M. Freed
After a long and happy life of 91 years, Delores M. Freed passed peacefully into Jesus loving arms, on May 21, 2018 at Reflection Living Care Home, located in Wichita KS. Delores Marie was born to Clifford and Zetta (Fisher) Brown on January 3, 1927, in Scandia, Kansas. She was raised in Scandia with her five brothers and one sister. There, she graduated from Scandia High School in 1945. While in high school, Delores met her soulmate, James "Jim" Freed. After graduating high school, Delores attended business college in Wichita while Jim served a short time in the Merchant Marines. In 1947, Delores married Jim and they began their married lives together. Delores and Jim began farming around Courtland, Kansas, and started a family. Shortly after the birth of their second child, they decided to move to Winfield, Kansas. There Delores was a homemaker, while Jim worked in the oil fields. In 1958, they moved to Fall River, Kansas, where Delores enjoyed cooking for the children at school, and Jim was a ranch hand. In 1965, they decided to move back to Winfield and bought their own home on Hackney Street. Delores started working at the Winfield State Hospital and enjoyed earning her degree as a PA2. In 1983, Delores was suddenly widowed after thirty-six wonderful years of marriage. She took comfort within her church groups, quilting, and gardening. Then in 1988, she retired from the Winfield State Hospital, and she began enjoying traveling with friends and spoiling her grandkids. She then moved in 2008 to Reflection Ridge in Wichita to be closer to her daughters. There she enjoyed playing cards and dominos with her new friends. Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her parents, Clifford and Zetta Brown; her brothers, Arlie, Bob, Glenn, Harold and Jim Brown, and her sister, Violet Subera.
