Gordon, Vee Shawver, 92, died peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2015 holding the hands of her sons, Herbert and Kent. Vee was born in Blackwell, OK to Frank B. and Veryl (Ebert) Smith. She was married to Howard Shawver for forty years. After that marriage ended she was fortunate to meet and marry the love of her life, M. “Jerry” Gordon through the efforts of her romantic and remarkable friend, Mary Koch, who enjoyed matchmaking believing everyone should have a “beau.” Vee believed that those who “gossiped” accomplished little. She was an organized and hard working woman who enjoyed raising her sons, and working as a banker eventually becoming a Vice President over five Arizona banks. Later she became an accomplished interior designer who enjoyed working with her clients and making their homes beautiful and functional. She loved spending time relaxing with friends on the veranda of “Las Tapias,” her winter home overlooking Lake Chapala in Mexico. She was a pilot and was a member of 99s the womans pilot organization. She also belonged to: PEO, Order of the Eastern Star, Knife and Fork, University Club and other clubs and professional organizations. She loved spending time with her many friends, often playing bridge. She enjoyed attending The First United Methodist Church and her 50/50 Sunday School Class. When illness prevented her from going in person she watched services on television. Vee Gordon had impeccable style, charm and grace. She enjoyed being a hostess and participating in many activities. She volunteered and served on committees for charitable activities and was a philanthropist. Her laughter, good humor and positive attitude infected those around her. She loved travel and had planned a river cruise in France this July. She was comfortable talking to folks and believed that she was blessed to have met many interesting people. She loved the Kansas State Motto: Ad Astra Per Aspera, (to the stars through difficulties.) She had a positive attitude because she believed that: “God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, so that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Vee climbed every mountain, climbed high, climbed far, her goal - the sky her aim the star. She is survived by her sons, Herbert Shawver, of Tonkawa, OK, and Kent, (Martha) Shawver of Wichita, and her grandson, Harwood, (Katherine) Shawver of Riley, Kansas. A private service will be held for her family at The Old Mission Mausoleum. An organ concert on the magnificent Marcussen Organ will be held to celebrate Vees life at: Wiedemann Hall (Wichita State University Campus), at Four Thirty, (4:30 P.M.) on Friday, May 29, 2015. Please come. In lieu of flowers friends are encouraged to donate to the WSU Foundation for “The Vee Shawver Gordon Organ Fund,” Wichita State University School of Music, 1845 Fairmount St., Wichita, KS 67260; or The Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, 204 S.
