Larry Meier

Larry Roy Meier, 77, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017. He was born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas, where he enjoyed working at the local greenhouse during high school. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1957, where he lettered in varsity football as a speedy defensive guard. Larry served proudly in the United States Air Force joining at the age of 17 and serving in the Strategic Air Command first at Ellsworth AFB, South Dakota, also with tours of duty in Italy at Grosetto and Aviano Air Bases. He learned Italian by mixing with the local community. He married Marticia Lawrence on July 27, 1968. Larry was a member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a children’s Sunday school teacher with Tisha. He worked for 40 years at Beech Aircraft later named Raytheon then Hawker Beechcraft. He held many positions including Energy and Conservation Manager, managing their Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Program. He was a Mechanical Plant Engineer and also a Facilities Engineer. Larry graduated from Wichita State University in 1975 with a degree in History. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Roy E. Meier and Delphine G. Ortner, and his brother, William K. Meier. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marticia “Tisha”; sons, Thomas (Keri), Michael of Wichita, daughter, Shannon (Aaron) Gaspers of Lawrence, brother Jim (Elaine) of Hutchinson, and brothers and sisters-in-law, Stan (Dian) Lawrence, Conrad (Kay) Lawrence, Victor (Larisa) Lawrence, Carol Calvert, Paula (Pat) Showalter. Survivors also include his 10 grandchildren, Preston, Paige, Halle, Kate, Julie, Claire and Kylie Meier and Rachael, Nicole and Jessica Gaspers, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, July 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Downing Lahey East Mortuary, 6555 East Central, Wichita, KS. Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 20th, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N. Webb Rd., Wichita, KS. Memorials: Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N.
