Ruby Stude Christensen, died Sunday, August 12, 2018. Ruby was born to Paul and Marie Stucky on March 29, 1930. She grew up in Inman, KS and received her degree in education from Emporia State University. She married Kenneth Stude in 1951. They moved to Minneola, KS to farm. She taught grade school in Dodge City for 17 years. Three years after Kenny passed away, she met Bob Christensen and they were married for 45 years. They lived in Garden City, KS until 2000, when they moved to Wichita. Ruby enjoyed a good game of bridge, time with her PEO sisters, reading, bible study and music theater, but most of all, spending time with her family. She was greeted in heaven by Kenny, Nicolas (grandson), and her brothers, Robert and Dick. She is survived by her husband, Bob; sisters, Ann Schroeder of Pocatello, ID, Kathryn Caffrey of Charleston, SC; daughter, Elaine (Steve) Schimmel of Wichita; step-sons, Jerry (Sharon) Christensen of Garden City, Dave (Carol) Christensen of Edmond, OK; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. The Funeral will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday, August 18, 2018, 10:00 am. Ruby had a strong passion for educating women, therefore family requests memorials to Kansas State Chapter PEO. The memorials will be used for scholarships for Kansas women. They may be sent in care of Downing & Lahey East Mortuary, Wichita, KS (checks payable to Kansas State Chapter PEO).

  1. I knew her as ‘Mrs. Stude’ – she was my fifth grade teacher. I learned a lot in that class, and will always remember her as an exceptionally kind, no-nonsense teacher. I lost track of her after leaving Northwest Elementary, but have never forgotten her.
