Alberta B. Griffin

Alberta (Kendrick) Griffin, was called home by her lord and savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016. She was born April 1, 1931, and raised in a family of 9 on a homestead in Scott City, Kan. She lived a life filled with memories ranging from attending a one-room schoolhouse and life on the farm to her beloved home in Oxley, Ark., later in life. Known for her independence, she was proud of family and devout in her faith. She was a longtime member of Midway and Immanuel Baptist churches in Wichita. She was preceded in death by husband, Jack; brothers, Edsel and Ernest; and a great grandson. Survivors include her brother, Earl Kendrick of Scott City; sons, Bruce (Helen) Griffin of Wichita, and Scott (Ellen) of Leslie, Ark.; daughters, Lois (Dennis) Gelonek of Wichita and Elaine (Kim) Rice of Wichita; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 23, 2016 with service Saturday, September 24, 2016 at 2 p.m. Both will be at Downing & Lahey Mortuary East. Interment at Lakeview Cemetery. A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Hospice of Wichita, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202.
