Bachman, Mary E., 83, loving mom, grandma, and great-grandmother went to heaven on Monday, September 24, 2007. Rosary, 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 26, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Funeral services, 10:00 A.M., Thursday, September 27, All Saints Catholic Church. Graveside service, 2:30 P.M., Thursday, September 27, Fort Scott (KS) National Cemetery. Mary was born and raised in Parsons, Kansas. She joined the US Navy WAVES during WWII. While stationed in San Francisco, she met and married Bill, her husband of over 45 years. Mary worked as a full time mom, nurses aide, school secretary at Andale High School, and a secretary at St. Francis Hospital from where she retired in 1991. For the last 10 years, she provided loving daycare for Chase, Grant, and Gage Sacket (friends of the family) who to this day call her “Grandma Mary”. She was a loving, fun-filled person who laughed often, was forever optimistic, and always looked for the good in people. She was protective, loyal, and dedicated to her family, and welcomed friends and family into her home with open arms. Preceded in death by her husband, William A. Bachman, Jr.; loving granddaughter, Melissa A. Bachman; loving grandson, John Bachman; parents, William and Mary (Frasier) Walton, and siblings, Virginia Chisholm, Ruth England, and Bill Walton. Mary is survived by her daughters, Peggy Bachman, Kathy (Col. Donald R.) Kirk; sons, Bill (Bernardine), Jim (Susan), Bob (Sheryl), Rick (Carol), Ray (CJ), and Mark Bachman. She has 24 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Memorials have been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202 and Catholic Care Center of Wichita, 6700 E. 45th St. N., Wichita, KS 67226.
