Cora Gelene “Stormy" Harris

Harris, Cora Gelene “Stormy”, was born September 21, 1926 in Anthony, KS to Riley and Florine (Greenwalt) Stormont and died on September 30, 2011 in Wichita, KS. A memorial service for Stormy will be held at Downing Lahey Mortuary East, this Saturday, October 8 at 10:00 am. Stormy grew up in a farming and teaching family in Wakita, OK and later as missionaries in Dwight Mission, OK and Tucson, AZ. After graduation from Tucson High School, Stormy attended the Oklahoma City School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse. Stormy married one of her patients, Bill Harris, on March 3, 1949 and raised their three kids - Shelly, Billy and Terry. They also lived in Emporia, KS and San Antonio, TX. Stormy and her husband enjoyed their family, friends and frequent golf trips. Stormy became such an avid golfer that she was the club champion and made a hole in one! Stormy returned to nursing after her husband died and served as the AIDS Nursing Advocate and the head nurse at Medical Center Hospital in San Antonio. Above all, Stormy was a supportive and loving mother and grandmother. In her later years she was happiest when she spent time with her three grandsons, Jon, Chris and Andy. Stormy is survived by her son, Bill, his wife, Sally of Singapore, three grandsons, Jon of Mesa, AZ, Chris and Andy of Wichita, daughter Shelly and husband Ken Gregory of Louisville, KY, and daughter Terry and husband Eddie Zimmerman of New Braunfels TX. Additionally, Stormy is survived by her sister Virginia Hern in Wakita, OK and brother David Stormont and wife Lorna in Emporia, KS.
