Blick, Berna Maxine, 86, homemaker, passed away Monday, October 5, 2009. Rosary, 7:30 P.M., Thursday, October 8; Funeral Mass, 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 9, both at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wichita. Berna was born in May, OK in 1922, and moved to Coats, KS in 1924, where she graduated from Coats High School. She moved to Wichita in 1942. After meeting her future husband Ernest in 1945, she engaged in a brief but active bootlegging career. They were married in 1946, and enjoyed 60 years of wedded Blicks. Berna was awarded the Bene Merenti Medal by Pope John XXIII in 1961 for distinguished service in establishing religious education programs in the Diocese of Wichita. She was an extraordinary seamstress, and had a special gift for Japanese embroidery. Other exceptional talents included gardening, ceramics, and gourmet cooking. After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively throughout America and Europe. Berna is preceded in death by husband, Ernest, and brother, Jack Horner. Survivors: children, Michael Blick (Patricia) of Denver, Terry Dittrich (Vincent) of Prairie Village, KS, Lynne Negrete of Knoxville, TN; sister, Betty Piester of Coats; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. Memorial established with Guadalupe Clinic, 940 S. St. Francis, Wichita, KS 67211. Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Rosary, 7:30 P.M., Thursday, October 8, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church
