Eugenia Anne Pluenneke

Pluenneke, Eugenia (Genie) Smith, 82, passed away on June 20, 2014 in Wichita, KS. She was born on May 4, 1932 in Jamaica, Long Island, New York to Eugene and Margret Smith. In 1954, she graduated from St. Joseph College in Maryland. While working on the editorial staff of Womans Home Companion she met Harold Pluenneke. They married in 1956 and Genie began her lifes work of loving and managing her growing family. Her husband was career Air Force, so there were many moves both in the US and overseas. In every community, Genie made it home for her and her family. Her 35 year stay in Wichita was no different. She was active in her church, local charities, Welcome Wagon, museum, and the arts. The rosary will be said at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, June 26, 2014 followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 A.M. both at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment services will be conducted at the Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Harold (H.C.); their four sons, Hal (Stephane), John (Patti), Robert (Kim), David (Mimi); seven wonderful grandchildren, Max, Jack, Molly, Joe, Kate, Jordan, and Lydia.
