Eileen M. Cowles

Cowles, Eileen M., 93, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Golden Living Center in Wichita. She was born in Jewell County, Kansas, to Herbert and Gladys Doud. She graduated from Burr Oak High School and earned a Normal School Teaching Certificate. Eileen taught in rural schools and worked at Cessna before her marriage to Alan Cowles. She is survived in her immediate family by daughters Ellen (Eugene Allen); Elizabeth (Mrs. John Spiess); Sarah (Steve Brown); and sons Clayton (Sonia); and Kraig (Barbara); grand children Wendy, Ryan, Nathan, Amanda, Morgan, Garrett, and Alyssa; and great-grandchildren Zachery, Benjamin, Quentin, and Andin. Eileen served many years as an active member of First Baptist Church of Wichita as a Sunday School teacher, in American Baptist Womens Ministries, and as Kitchen Manager responsible for all aspects of food service for the congregation. She was also active in Rae Woodman PTA, serving as an officer and as president. She was an excellent cook, baker, seamstress, gardener, and neighbor. Visitation with the family will be 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 14, at Downing and Lahey Mortuary East. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 15, 2010, at Prairie Homestead Retirement Center, 1605 West May Street, Wichita, with graveside service following at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. A reception will follow at 1:30 p.m. in the Garden Room at Prairie Homestead. Memorials may be made to Prairie Homestead, 1605 West May Street, Wichita, KS 67213 and Susan G.
