Michael C. Weigand

Weigand, Michael C., 81, Wichita, Kansas, died Friday, March 7, 2014. Rosary will be at 6:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 12, 2014, Downing Lahey East Mortuary; Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, March 13, 2014, St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. Michael was born February 14, 1933 to Nestor R. and Margaret Weigand. Michael attended University of Notre Dame and Wichita State University. Michael joined J. P. Weigand Sons, Inc. in 1956 when he returned from service in the army. He served as Senior Vice President and Secretary/Treasurer of J. P. Weigand Sons, Inc. Michael was elected the President of the Wichita Board of Realtors in 1967. Michael was instrumental in several retail projects in Wichita; Normandie, Twin Lakes, Towne East, Towne West and some smaller projects throughout our community. He played an important part in the City of Wichita history of moving retail from downtown shopping to shopping centers and malls. He was a member of the Wichita Area Association of Realtors; Kansas Association of Realtors; National Association of Realtors; International Council of Shopping Centers. He was also recipient of the Kansas Certified Commercial Investment Lifetime Achievement Award. Preceded in death by his parents, Nestor and Margaret Weigand, Sr.; wife, Lois Ann Weigand. Survived by: children, Michael C. (Liz) Weigand of Claremont, CA, Janet (Donald) Weigand Fuqua of Denver, CO, Eric M. (Holly) Weigand of Upland, CA; siblings, Joan Sargent Jensen, Kaye Greenleaf, Nestor Weigand, Jr., all of Wichita; grandchildren, Madison and Brooke Weigand, Eric and Hunter Fuqua, Jacob and Ryan Weigand; second wife, Gloria.
