Frances M. Larson

Larson, Frances M., 87, daughter of Oscar Dan and Georgia Larson, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the Kansas Masonic Home in Wichita, KS. Frances was born December 2, 1920 in Iola, KS. She was a graduate of Iola Junior College and the Chillicothe Business College. After completing school, Frances moved to Wichita and began working at The Farmers and Bankers Life Insurance Company. During World War II, she worked in the personnel department at Boeing. From there she went to First Federal Savings and Loan and started as a general office worker. In 1951, she was elected First Federals first woman officer, Assistant Secretary. During the following years, she also served as Assistant Vice-President, and in 1970 was elected to the office of Vice-President and Secretary. After retiring from First Federal Savings and Loan, Frances went back to work for Wichita Federal Savings and Loan Association as Administrative Vice-President for eight more years, finally retiring in 1990. Frances was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Rose Douglas Chapter of Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi, and Executive Women International. She was recently recognized for 58 years of faithful and dedicated membership in the International Association of Administrative Professionals. In addition to her community affiliations, she served seventeen years as a volunteer for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and a member of the Board of Directors. Frances loved to travel and was an ardent sports fan, enthusiastically following Wichita States basketball team and other sports. She is survived by her niece, Betty Jo Russell of Joplin, MO and nephew, Lynn Hoffmeier and wife, Deanna of Lawrence, KS, two great-nieces and one great-nephew. Service 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 18, Kansas Masonic Home Chapel, Wichita, KS. Interment will be 3:00 P.M., Saturday, in Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 9415 E. Harry, Wichita, KS, 67207. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
