Wiebe, Hubert J., 81, passed away Monday, March 14, 2011. Visitation with the family, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Friday, March 18; Memorial Service, 11 a.m., Saturday, March 19, both at First Mennonite Brethren Church. Prior to the memorial service, burial will be held at 9:30 a.m., Resthaven Cemetery. Hubert was born July 17, 1929 in Newton, Kansas to Abe and Edna Wiebe. He lived his early life on a farm near Dalhart, TX. Their family moved to Wichita in 1941 where he has resided since. He attended Wichita elementary schools, graduated from North High School in 1948, attended and received his Bachelors from Friends University, his Masters from University of Northern Colorado and did other graduate studies at Kansas State University. Hubert taught Industrial Arts at Friends University for 18 years. He was also a well-known paperhanger in the Wichita area, a trade he learned from his dad. For many years, he was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 720. Since his teen years, he enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was also a member of the Singing Quakers at Friends University, Kansas Mennonite Mens Chorus and the Wichita Symphony Chorus. Preceded in death by parents and grandson, Alex J. Wiebe. Survivors: wife, Audrey, of the home; children, Gary Wiebe (Teresa), Cheryl Bangle (Ron), Randall Wiebe (Lisa) and Paul Wiebe (Morgan) all of Wichita; sisters, Marjorie Gould (Robert) of Stanley, KS, Carolyn Gilmore of Newburg, OR; 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations suggested to First Mennonite Brethren Church Music Ministry, 8000 W. 21st St. N., Wichita, KS 67205. Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Visitation with the family, 5:30-7:30 P.M., Friday, March 18, First Mennonite Brethren Church. Graveside service, 9:30 A.M., Saturday, March 19, Resthaven Cemetery.
