Gerald Emory Hendrixson

Hendrixson, Gerald Emory, 81, passed away at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Mon., March 15, 2010. Visitation 6 ~ 8:00 p.m., Thurs., March 18 and service at 1:00 p.m., Fri., March 19, both at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Gerald was born November 14, 1928 at the rural Viola, KS home of his grandparents, son of Fred and Bernadine Dobbin Hendrixson. Raised in the Viola, Norwich and Mulvane, KS communities, graduating from Mulvane High where he enjoyed playing football and basketball. Gerald worked in the 1940s delivering ice and milk, and at the Boeing Airplane Company during World War II at the age of 16. Gerald served in the US Army as a courier in Europe during the Korean Conflict at Weisbaden, Germany. He retired from Union Chemicals, division of UNOCAL, after 32 years of driving a truck. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and traveling this great country of ours and enjoying his summer home at Table Rock Lake in Missouri. Gerald was a past member of Kansa Traveler Camping Club, served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout #506 in Wichita and enjoyed many campouts and backpacking trips to the mountains in Colorado with the boys in the 1970s. Gerald loved to bowl and bowled in several leagues over the years. On December 3, 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth Cullison. Preceded in death by a baby son and his parents. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elizabeth; daughter, Teresa (Charles) Jimenez of El Dorado, KS; son, Thomas (Jan) Hendrixson, of Conroe, TX; sister, Nadine Kilgore of DeSoto, KS; grandchildren, Carla Mendenhall of Leon, Hollie Jimenez of Leon, Nicholas Jimenez of Columbia, South Carolina, Angela Jimenez of Wichita, Mark Saunders and Pam Saunders, both of Houston, TX; great-grandchildren, Cole, Dakota, Garret, Isaac, TaylorRay, Zayda, Malachi, Nehemiah and Xoie; and many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
