Stephen John Steve Smith

Stephen “Steve” John Smith, 67, beloved husband and brother, went home to be with his Lord on September 11, 2019 after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his adoring wife of 19 years, Rosina (Houtz); brothers, Thomas, Michael, Patrick, and William; sister, Carol Marriner. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Owen Smith; mother, Dolores M. Smith; sister, Karen Gross; and twin sister, Kathleen Seydak. Steve was born in Camden, New Jersey on August 18, 1952. After a four-year US Navy enlistment, Steve made the auto sales industry his lifelong career. Wichita became his home in 1980. Steve and Rosina met in an online chat room in August 1999. Two months later they met in person, the sparks flew, and three months later they were married and became one. It was an amazing love story, chronicled in the March 12, 2000 issue of the Wichita Eagle. A staunch fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Phillies, Flyers, and Seventy-Sixers, Steve rarely missed a locally televised game. Steve was a 35-year friend of Bill W. Well known for his sense of humor and positive outlook, Steve is fondly remembered for his ready smile and uplifting spirit. No memorial service is planned. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
