GREENSBURG - Mynssen-Santos, Karen LeAnn, 26, died Friday, October 16, 2009, in Melbourne, Australia, due to a sudden illness. She was born February 21, 1983, at Greensburg, KS, to Jay and Marilyn Koehn. Karen graduated from Greensburg High School in 2001 and attended Kansas State University from 2001-04. She later received her Associates of Science Degree in Nursing in 2006 from Pratt Community College and worked at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg. Karen went on to earn her Bachelors of Science in Nursing at Wichita State University in 2008. On April 7, 2007, she married Andre Mynssen-Santos in Las Vegas, NV. They lived in Wichita where Karen worked as an RN at Wesley Medical Center. In January 2009, they moved to Darwin, Australia and Karen worked as an RN at Royal Darwin Hospital until her death. Her survivors include: husband, Andre of Darwin, Australia; parents, Jay and Marilyn Koehn of Greensburg; sister, Kristina Peters, and husband, Ryan of Cimarron; brother, Douglas Koehn, and wife, Fonda of Buckeye, AZ; sister, Karla Koehn, and significant other, Steve Hogan of Kinsley; paternal grandparents, Dewey and Minnie Koehn of Greensburg; maternal grandfather, Cloyde Hunter of Pomona; in-laws, Jose and Amdiara Santos of Wichita; brother-in-law, Carlos Santos of NY; 6 nieces; 3 nephews; many beloved uncles, aunts, cousins, and her much loved cat, “Fatcat”. Karen was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Mary Hunter, and aunt, Nancy Koehn. A funeral service to celebrate Karens life will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, at Greensburg Mennonite Church in Greensburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Karen Mynssen-Santos Memorial Nursing Scholarship, c/o Greensburg State Bank, 240 S. Main, Greensburg, KS 67054.
