David Alan Gittrich, 70, State Development Director and former Executive Director of Kansans for Life and member of the Knights of Columbus, died Tuesday, October 17, 2017. He fought for all life, from conception to natural death, and tirelessly worked for the pro-life movement for the last 35 years. David served as Development Director of Kansans for Life from 2002 until September 2017, when the progression of cancer made it impossible for him to continue working. David had previously served as Executive Director of KFL for 11 years and was involved in the pro-life movement as a very active volunteer since 1982. In 1982 his best friend, John Shay, showed him a film about abortion, and from that time on David was a tireless worker for the right to life of all human beings. David was responsible for the growth of Kansans for Life from a small number of people mainly in Wichita, Topeka, and Kansas City, to an organization with thousands of members with organized groups in 85 cities. He enjoyed pro-life educational projects the most, but also became involved in politics when he realized political efforts were needed in order to advance the pro-life movements goals. Rosary will be at 7:00 pm, Sunday, October 22, 2017; Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am, Monday, October 23, 2017, both at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence A. and Annabelle H. Gittrich; brother, Lawrence L. Gittrich; sister, Mary Ann Baker. Survived by his brother, Mark A. Gittrich; sister, Sarah (Robert, Sr.) Lang; sister-in-law, Veronica M. Gittrich (widow of Lawrence), all of Wichita; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with: Kansans for Life, 3301 W. 13th St. N., Wichita, KS 67203; Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 124 N. Roosevelt, Wichita, KS 67208.
