John S. Pearson PhD

85, died Friday, October 19, 2007, in Wichita, KS, after a long battle with Alzheimers. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 10, at East Heights United Methodist Church, Wichita. John was born June 26, 1922 in Hatton, ND and was raised in Wheaton, MN. After graduating from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1944, he was commissioned as an officer in the 1st Division, U. S. Marines. He served in the Pacific Theater on Okinawa and in China. In 1946 he returned to Minnesota and worked full time for the state of Minnesota while he earned his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1954. He served as Chief Psychologist for the Rochester State Hospital from 1952 until joining the Mayo Clinic staff in 1958. he was also an assistant professor at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. In 1969, he joined the Wichita Clinic staff. He continued to practice psychology in Wichita until his retirement in 1989. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Carlson Pearson of the home, children, the Honorable John K. and wife, Sue M. Pearson of Wichita, Scott G. and wife, Pam Pearson of Folsom, CA, Kristine A. and husband, David Sutter of Tacoma, WA and Linnea H. Pearson of St. Paul, MN; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to your favorite charity or East Heights United Methodist Church, 4407 E.
