Shirley C. Heyland

Shirley C. Heyland, 92, passed away Friday, October 23, 2015. Shirley was born in Barnesville, MN to Cora Prieb Collins and James Collins. She grew up in Barnesville and moved to Wichita in 1938. She graduated from East High School in 1941. Shirley worked for TWA, where she met her husband, Herman Hank Heyland. They were married in 1946 until Hank passed away in 2001. Shirley had still resided in their home they had built in 1950. She worked as an insurance claim processor at Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna when she retired in 1972. Shirley was a very giving, caring and generous person. She and Hank had helped many people over the years. Shirley was an avid bridge player, loved fishing at their farm in Eureka and their yearly visits to the cottage at Lake Lizzie, Pelican Rapids, MN. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cindy Heyland, of the home; and nephew, Johnie (Jan) Colwell, of MN; and a very devoted and loved friend, Cathy Sigg. Funeral Service will be at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 27 at Downing Lahey Mortuary East, 6555 E Central Ave, Wichita, KS 67206.
