Burt, Betty Jo (Spencer), 85 passed away peacefully Wednesday Oct. 26, 2011 in Wichita. Born November 7, 1925, the middle child between brothers Bob and Daryl, to Thelma and Ted Spencer in Leon, KS, Betty graduated from Wichita East High School and was a lifelong resident of the city. Betty was a true product of Wichita. Employed almost exclusively by local icons Boeing and The Coleman Company, she retired from the latter after nearly 30 years of service. Betty loved to bowl, and she did so competitively into her late 70s. Betty lived her life with quiet determination, resilience and discipline embodying the very traits that have come to define “The Greatest Generation” into which she was born. Survivors include those she loved the most, her five children; daughters, Deborah Ann Smyth, and Tamatha Sue Strange of Wichita; and sons Donald Dean Burt of Columbia, MD, David Duane Burt of Wichita and Richmond F Burt III of Overland Park, KS; and twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday October 28 at Downing Lahey East Mortuary. Graveside burial will be held immediately following at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. As an alternative to flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimers Association, 347 Laura, Wichita, KS, 67211. Graveside burial will be held immediately following at White Chapel Memorial Gardens.
