Elliott, John A., 100, former Senior Vice President, Beech Aircraft Corporation, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012. Funeral service to be held on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 1:00 P.M., Eastminster Presbyterian Church with interment following at Lakeview Cemetery in Wichita. Visitation with family on Tuesday, October 30, 2012, 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. John was born in Earlton, KS and graduated from Chanute High School in 1929. He then attended the University of Kansas and received a business degree in 1935. Upon graduation, he accepted a position in accounting with Firestone Tire Company in Akron, OH. He later worked for White Motor Company in Cleveland, OH. He began his career at Beech Aircraft Corporation in June 1942 as a Tabulating Supervisor and rose through the ranks to be elected Treasurer in 1950 and Secretary in 1951. He was elected to the Board of Directors in 1958. He retired in 1977 and was retained to assist in facilitating the merger transaction with Raytheon in 1980. His community service includes United Way, Wichita Crime Commission and Boy Scouts of America. He also had lengthy service as a Board member with Union National Bank-Wichita and as Advisory Board Member with the University of Kansas School of Business. He also enjoyed his many years of membership with Crestview Country Club and Bulls and Bears Investment Club. John thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and provided many words of encouragement to each of them. He was proud of their many accomplishments. He also enjoyed farming as a hobby and golfing with friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Alfred J. and Hazel Miller Elliott; stepmother, Mary Kepley Elliott; wife of 66 years, Ruth Marie Elliott; and grandson, Scott Thompson. John is survived by his sister, LaDica Dixson of Chanute, KS; daughter, Karin E. Tierney (Tim) of Overland Park, KS, sons J. Nelson (Helen) of Leawood, KS and Roger A. (Nancy) of Wichita. Six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Johns family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the staff of Andover Court Assisted Living in Andover, KS for the excellent care he received over the past four years. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with Amedisys Hospice, 250 W. Douglas Ave. #101, Wichita, KS 67202.
