Lila DeHook

Lila DeHook, age 100, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2016. Born on October 14, 1915 in Great Bend, Kansas, Lila was the oldest sister of 14 siblings. She grew up in Cimarron, Kansas where she helped to raise her brothers and sisters on her parents farm. She married Hassan DeHook, and they lived in Toledo, Ohio where she was a homemaker, later moving to Wichita to be close to their family. She was the pillar of her family; a kind, spirited, generous, and independent woman who enjoyed cooking, tending to her flowers, telling stories, and spending time with her loved ones. In October 2015, Lila celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by her family and friends and will be missed greatly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Debly Salem; her brothers, Joseph, Hesson, Marion ("Buck"), Bill, and Collid; her half-brothers, Sam, George, and Emmett; and her loving husband, Hassan DeHook. She is survived by her two children, Mickey DeHook and Linda Mirza (Medo); four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; as well as her brother, Otto; and sisters, Rose, Joy, Ida, and Zina. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Downing & Lahey Mortuary, 6555 E. Central, Wichita, with burial to follow at Lakeview Cemetery, 12100 East 13th Street N, Wichita. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations in Lilas name be made to East Heights United Methodist Church at 4407 E Douglas Ave, Wichita, KS 67218.
