Freda Virginia (Hurd) Weddle

Weddle, Freda Virginia (Hurd), 91, died Sunday July 12, 2009. Service will be 10:00 A.M. Monday July 27, 2009, at Downing Lahey Mortuary East. Freda was born January 8, 1918, in Cherryvale, KS and graduated from Independence, KS High School. After moving to Wichita she became one of the first women hired by Cessna Aircraft Company where she met her future husband Virgil G. “Doc” Weddle. Freda and Virgil were married December 20, 1941. Freda was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Next to her family, working in her flower garden was her passion. She took flying lessons so she could enjoy flying with Doc. Preceding Freda in death were her parents, Fred Hurd and Rena (McMahill) Hurd Gardner, and a sister, Dortha (Hurd) Dodd. She is survived by her husband, Virgil, and two sons, Ron and wife Marcia, of Wichita, and Gary and wife Donna, of Keller, TX; niece Dortha Ann (Dodd) Roberts and husband Ed, of Fairview, TX; four grandchildren, Craig and wife Jennifer Weddle and Kara (Weddle) Stewart, all of Wichita, Amy (Weddle) Hester and husband David, of Hurst, TX, Marcus and wife Kristen Weddle, of Manchester, N.H.; eight great-grandchildren, Carson and Camden Weddle, Jacob, Kellilynne, and Gabriel Stewart, all of Wichita, Emily Hester, of TX, Alistair and Anthea Weddle, of N.H. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society, 818 N. Emporia, S-100, Wichita, KS 67202.
