Carpenter, Dorothy “Naomi”, 87, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011. Graveside Service, 5 p.m., Saturday, July 16, Maize Park Cemetery. Memorial Service, 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 19, Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Naomi met her husband, Clyde, while he was serving in the military. They were married February 12, 1944 in Corpus Christi, TX. She attended Northwest Texas Womens College and later worked for the railroad, Sears and Haysville Public Schools. University affiliations included Kansas Wesleyan and Kansas State as well as Wichita State where she worked as an administrative assistant under university presidents Emory Lindquist and Clark Ahlberg. Preceded in death by husband, D. Clyde Carpenter; parents, Ranson and Ninnie Waggoner; brothers, Paul and Leroy Waggoner; sister, Imogene Shepherd. Survivors: children, Evelyn K. Hardy of Long Beach, CA, E. Sue Benish of Wichita, Derrick C. Carpenter (Shari Youngman) of Topeka; sister, Helen Kent of Lufkin, TX; 6 grandchildren and a wealth of friends and bridge buddies. We were fortunate to have Naomi and Clyde as or neighbors when we lived near Goddard. They were great people. Sorry to hear about the passing of Naomi. Our condolences goes out to the family.
