Roy Lee McLemore

McLemore, Roy Lee, 94, cherished father and grandfather, passed away Monday, July 16, 2012. Funeral service 1:00 P.M., Friday, July 20 at Celebration Baptist Church. Roy, the oldest son of Delmer and Minnie McLemore, was born January 16, 1918 in Elk City, Oklahoma. He was proud to be a World War II Army Combat Veteran of the European Theater. Roy served as a trooper in the 89th Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron and was present at Ramagen and the Battle of the Bulge. He continued his service as Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol. Following World War II, Roy apprenticed as a jeweler and was the owner of McLemore Jewelry for over 40 years. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America with his sons and was a 50 year member of the Derby Masonic Lodge. Roy was a founding member of Celebration Baptist Church. His greatest pride and joy was his family and he loved having his sons around him on special occasions. Preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Virginia, brother, Dean, daughter, Billie Lorraine Denton and son, Rex Lee. He is survived by his sister, Loretha, sons, Don (Jamie), Van (Felicia), Ken (Laura), 8 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and friends. A memorial has been established with Celebration Baptist Church, 7202 E. 9th St. N., Wichita, KS, 67206. Downing Lahey Mortuary East.
