Van Bruce Lewis Van passed from this earth April 2, 2016. He was 70 years old. He was born October 24, 1945 to Louis (Buck) Lewis and Lucille Blount Lewis. He spent his childhood years learning the cattle business while working with his father and brother on the Lazy L Ranch south of Kinsley, Kansas in the sand hills. He graduated from Ft. Hays State University in 1967, with a B.S. in Ag/Business. He married the love of his life, Nan Crum, on May 5, 1971. Van and Nan were each others everything. He was a bonded cattle buyer. Van was well-respected in the cattle trade, buying cattle for farmers and feed lots. Many people depended on his help in markets and purchasing. He was a business, as well as, life mentor. His strong moral code was the compass that directed his life. Behind Vans gruff exterior was a huge heart. People of all kinds found themselves the recipient of one of his many acts of kindness, often anonymously given. Left behind to honor and miss this exceptional man: his beloved wife, Nan, Dodge City; his brothers and sisters: Mike (Ruth) Lewis Pratt; Lana Whitney, Hays; Niki (Roger) Shepherd, Wichita; numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Also left to miss him: sisters and brothers in law: Linda (Dave) Szydlo, Epping, New Hampshire; Judy (Ron) Long, Neosho, Mo; Bill (Sonya) Crum, Eagle, Id.; nieces, nephews and countless treasured friends. Honoring Vans wishes, there will be no funeral service. He would say, "Remember me, but dont mourn me." Instead, send a favorite memory to Nan. In lieu of flowers, suggested memorials in Vans name: Wounded Warriors, Humane Society of Dodge City, Depot Dinner Theatre of Dodge City.
