K. K. Hsiao Fang Yen

April 5, 1947 ~ July 18, 2017
K. K. Hsiao Fang Yen, 70, passed peacefully in his sleep on July 18, 2017 after a brave battle against cancer. He was born on April 5, 1947 on the island of Mauritius. He attended medical school at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. After his radiology residency at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, he married the love of his life, Lily. They had four amazing children: Jill (Benji), Tracy, Natalie, and Kim. He worked at the V.A. Hospital in Kansas City for six years before coming to Wichita where he worked at Via Christi for more than 35 years until his retirement in 2013. His hobbies were photography, traveling, movies, food, long walks at Chisholm Creek Park, and spending time with the family. He was a very generous man. His first memory of giving was when he was five years old. He had been given a single rupee, which he gave away to charity at a fundraising event. Such was the way he lived his life. He continued to give, especially to those he cared about most. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 21. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Ste. 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 (www.pancan.org) or a charity of your choice. Downing & Lahey East Mortuary.
