Larry Stephen Talbott, 66, insurance agent, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013. Visitation with the family, 6:00-7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 25; Celebration of Life, 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 26, both at Downing Lahey Mortuary West. Larry was born in Topeka, KS, October 29, 1946 to the late Leon Talbott and Mary Young Talbott. The family moved to Wichita, KS where he graduated from North High School in 1964. He served his country in Vietnam as part of the Army National Guard from May 1968 to September 1969 when he was honorably discharged. Following his tour of duty, Larry attended Butler County Community College receiving an Associate of Arts Degree and went on to attend two years at Washburn University studying business and accounting. He joined his father in the family business at the C. Ray Tyler Agency as an insurance agent in 1973. They worked together for many years until his father retired and Larry took over the business. Larry served as President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Wichita in1992. Larry met Linnette Gatlin when they were both attending school in Topeka and they were married in 1974. They were blessed with a son, Cory, in 1988. Larry was an avid golfer and helped run the Independent Insurance Agents of Wichita annual Youth Classic Golf Tournament for many years. He achieved every golfers dream of hitting a hole in one twice: once at Echo Hills Golf Course and the other at Hidden Lakes Golf Course. He was also a great fan of the Wichita State Shockers and the Cardinals baseball team. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Survivors: wife of 39 years, Linnette Talbott; son, Cory Talbott; one sister, Marcia Penner (Ray); nephews, Todd Penner (Natalie) and Nick Penner (Sara), and other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Memorials have been established with the Salvation Army and St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
