Richard Lawrence Eckberg
92, was born in Bellingham, Washington, July 9, 1925. He passed away April 6, 2018. Richard graduated from Roosevelt High School in Seattle, Washington in 1943 and the University of Washington in 1949. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Corps. Richard was employed by General Insurance (now Safeco) from 1949 to 1952. He entered the FBI on St Patricks Day 1952, and retired in 1979. During his time with the FBI he served in Washington, D.C., Denver, Minneapolis, Sioux Falls, Kansas City and Wichita. Richard was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 69 years, Jannette M. (Novak) Eckberg. Survivors include his children, Timothy (Sylvia, deceased), Thomas (Terrie), all of Wichita, Christina Norell (Charles) of Finlayson, MN, Fr. Joseph of Derby, and Mary Kay Rott (Chris) also of Wichita; 13 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren. Richard was a member of Rolling Hills Country Club for almost 50 years, AARP, NARF, Kansas Peace Officers Association, Knights of Columbus, Former Agents of the FBI, Harvest House, Lambda Chi Alpha and St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Rosary will be 10:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., both Thursday, April 12, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Entombment will be at 2 p.m., in Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum.
