Michael H. Modeen, 45, died at home on Sunday, July 12, 2020, after a long battle with chronic illness. Michael was born on February 21st, 1975, to Nels and Barbara Modeen, and was raised in Wichita, Chicago, and, finally, Kansas City where he graduated from Shawnee Mission West High School in 1994. Michael was a free spirit, fierce friend, and, as many of his friends can attest, quite the jokester. He was also a man of many passions, amongst which were fishing, the rodeo, country music, spending time with family, and, above all, his country. Michael was perhaps one of the most patriotic people of his generation. His zest for life and his love of America and his fellow Americans drove him in his work in the mental health field where he worked as a mentor to at-risk teens. Although his life was far too short, we find solace in knowing that he lived authentically and wholly. To celebrate his life, there will be a private graveside service held, and in lieu of donation and flowers, we welcome the sharing of memories and stories about Michael. It is in our memories and our hearts that he will continue to live on. Please feel free to share these tributes at www.dlwichita.com or by contacting one of the family members through Facebook. Michael is survived by his parents, Nels and Barbara Modeen; sister, Deanna (Tim) Bergeron of Olathe, KS; cousin, Jayne Marie Bement of Kingman, AZ; cousin, Laurie Lo Nigro of Wichita, KS; nephew, Doug (Patrick) Bartel of Kansas City, MO; niece, Kayla (Courtney) Bartel of Leavenworth, KS; niece, Kylee (Justin) Jenkins of East Lynn, MO; niece, Chelsea (Tyler) Baird of Wichita Falls, TX; niece, Karisa Bergeron of Shawnee, KS; twelve great-nieces and nephews; uncle, Gene Peckham of Derby, KS.
