Edna L. Sutton Campbell 3-2-1936 to 11-5-2020 The most beautiful woman in the world, inside and out. She embodies all that is good and just. Honest Christian principles, love thy neighbor and do good, hard work, support programs for those less fortunate, and above all, love the Lord and Family. Edna was not only a member of a number of programs and groups but an active and involved participant. To name a few: Calvary UMC, The church guild, Ages and Stages Sunday School, Grace Med, D.A.R., Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Wesley School of Nursing Grads, a Red Hat group, and the Mullinville School reunions. She gave much of her “Time, Talent and Treasure”. Edna was especially devoted to her family. Born and raised in Kiowa County, KS, went to school in Mullinville, then to Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita. She became a registered nurse and served in that field for 40 years at the Wesley Medical Center. Primarily in Labor and Delivery. She met and enhanced the lives of many people. In 1957, she married Bob Sutton, together they raised two wonderful sons, Bryan and Brent. While Edna and Bob both were employed full time, they made time to raise the boys and do many family things together. Edna retired from nursing in 1998. The next ten years she spent many hours assisting Bob in his fight against cancer. Bob passed away in 2008. Edna continued to be involved in her groups, concentrating on those who were less fortunate. In 2012, she and Walt Campbell had a first date. He was smitten! They were married in 2013. They were good for each other. She never quit her groups but also became involved with Walt in his Fire Service activities. They played board games, cards and truly enjoyed country music. Edna was an angel here on earth. She is survived by her husband, Walt; sons, Bryan and Brent (Kim); grandkids, Taylor Sutton (Larry), Zach Sutton, Chris Sutton; brother, Eugene Olson (Sue); sister, Mary Roetzer (Jerry), Phyllis Sherer; stepson, David Campbell (Diane); step-grandkids, Elizabeth Woods (Erica), Cheryl Rodriguez (Luis), and Mike Campbell (Liz), and many, many friends. A memorial has been established with the Kansas Firefighters Museum, 1300 S Broadway St, Wichita, KS 67211. Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Edna was a lovely warm person, always with a smile and a hug for me. We met at our church and connected when she discovered that my father was one of her favorite doctors she worked with at Wesley in the Birth rooms. She will be remembered for her caring and loving spirt. God bless the family, may the memories comfort you.

  2. Edna sweet Edna. She and Bob were our next door neighbors for many years. Mom ( Maria Flora, Mascarenas) were great friends. I babysat Bryan and Brent for a short time and in turn my mom babysat baby Taylor. We loved Edna so much. I chose to have my first and second child at Wesley solely because I knew Edna would be right at my side and my fellow nursing classmates. I flew from Spain at 7 months pregnant just to have my baby under Ednas loving wing. In later years I even ended up buying her RV a few years after Bob passed away. I still have it and think of Edna and Bob of the great adventures they wanted to do in their RV. She was so very happy to meet Walt and be loved and love like she knew how and deserved. I am very sad Edna has passed. I will think of her always with so much fondness. I send my sincere condolences and send you all a hug. Just like Edna would reach out to me every time we would reunite. Rest sweet Edna and be my moms neighbor again. Love Dolores Mascarenas Bartlett
