Mary Kathryn (Deck) Thelman, 98, USD 259 Teacher, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Preceded in death by her first husband, John Robert Deck; second husband, James W Thelman; sons, Howard and Glenn Deck. Survived by her son, John (Dalene) Deck; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Deck; grandchildren, J. Ryan, Kara, Andrew and Derek, seven great-grandchildren, and many other family and friends. John, Please accept the Wettig family’s deepest sympathies on the passing of your mother. Mary was a bright light in the neighborhood and I still remember her wonderful smile. After she retired full time from teaching she substituted a few times for my classes at South Hillside Elementary and I always wished she could have been one of my full-time teachers. I just heard about Mary K’s passing and wanted to send my condolences to everyone in her family. She and my mother were part of the “The Girls” bridge club for years and years. Although I’d run into Mary K over the years, I met up with her one day at Dillons and we had a nice chat. She filled in at my bridge club a couple of times.
