La Quita Joyce Wallace

La Quita Joyce Wallace, 87, church organist and pianist, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021. A Celebration of Life service will be held May 29, 2021 at 1:00 pm, at Downing & Lahey West Mortuary. La Quita had a passion for music, was an avid piano player and even wrote her own music. She enjoyed supporting her husband of almost 65 years, assisting with his business bookkeeping among other things. Throughout the years, she took care of the reunions for the Wichita North High Class of 1950. She attended both Emporia State and Wichita State, studying music theory. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Nora McCollum for the excellent care she provided as well as her companionship. Preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Edith Leighton; husband, Royce Wallace; brother, Vonley Leighton. Survivors: children, Leigh (Stephen Dreizler) Wallace, Royce Eric (Dashannon) Wallace, Rene (Doug) Hendricks, Jennifer Wallace and Tina (Blake) Elliott; grandsons, Donnie (Danielle) Wallace, Royce Evan Wallace, Nick (Laura) Tambling; granddaughters, Jamie Wallace, Jessie Wallace, Amanda Tambling, Caitlin (Wes) Myers, Lily Clark, Grace Elliott, Caroline Elliott; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters, Robin O'Conner, Pam (Ray) Volker; brother, David (Carol) Leighton. A memorial has been established with Heartland Home Care and Hospice, 2872 N. Ridge Rd., #122, Wichita, KS 67205. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
