Julie Ijeoma Onwugbufor (nee) Nnannah passed peacefully on March 11th, 2021. Called to be with her Lord and Christ Our Savior. Julie was predeceased by Chigwe Onwugbufor her husband of 39 years. Cherished and remembered by her sons Uche, Chime, Ike and Anozi and her beloved daughter-in-law Sarah Onwugbufor. Adored by her devoted grandchildren Justin, Chidera, Devin and Cassandra named in her honor. Among the long line of siblings, numerous nieces and nephews as well as countless other who called her “Madame”, Adella and William Ozor suffer with us in our loss. Born in Mgbidi, Imo state, Nigeria, died at the age of 76 surrounded by her children remembering a formidable woman. From Nigeria to England and then to America armed with a certification in stenography, Julie pursued her career in Journalism by pulling on her paramount talent. The ability to get people around the table to exchange ideas. After earning a degree from HBC Lincoln University Julie had the opportunity to work for the St Louis Post Dispatch, personal assistant to Missouri State representative Quincy Troop, Sedgwick County court clerk, retiring from Sedgwick County Health Department. A life of building bridges included hosting her own pan African radio program, called Africa 20. She loved her involvement as regional representative for student exchange with Education Foundation. She would often describe herself as “A simple village girl” though she had never met a stranger. Always gathering others into the fold. She loved sharing Nigerian culture with others through traditional foods and dance, demonstrated by the WAZOBIA dance troupe for young people here in Wichita. An avid reader and advocate of education, she challenged others to explore the world around them. After retirement Julie found her talents put to good use with The Sisters of Saint Joseph. Endeared by her office mates her ability to direct applicants to charitable services served her mantra of flexibility and adapting to change. Julie valued a good plan B. She lauded family, saying trust that the family is always with you. This daughter of Mgbidi, your Arochukwu sister, our Madame is going home. Rosary will be at 7:00 pm, Friday, March 26, 2021; Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, March 27, 2021, both at Holy Savior Catholic Church. Please send cards and flowers to Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.
