Paul E. Johnson, 89, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021. After a battle with Myeloma for the last 4 years and then heart failure, Paul is now at peace with his Lord and Savior. He grew up on a farm in Stanberry, Missouri, and received an education in electronics in Omaha, Nebraska, along with his brother, Max. Together they joined the Air Force as system mechanics. After discharge from the military, they were offered positions at The Boeing Company as electronics technicians. At Boeing Wichita, Paul worked on a wide range of B52 aircraft programs. When the space program was launched, he moved to Huntsville, Alabama, and through the 1960’s worked on the Apollo Saturn V and the Lunar Rover programs. He also received his private pilot license during this time. After completion of the Apollo programs, he returned to Wichita where he retired after 42 years of service as an Avionics System Manager in 1992. After retirement he lived in Kent, Washington, with his wife, Melinda, until her death from a stroke in 2013. He moved back to Wichita to be close to his son. He loved anything to do with avionics, current events, camping, cooking, country music, getting together with family and friends and playing dominos, all of which were his favorite pastime activities. Preceded in death by wife, Melinda Johnson; parents, Margaret and Shelby Johnson; brothers, Max and Jim Johnson. Survived by his son, Ronald Johnson (Kimbra) of Wichita; granddaughter, Natalie Johnson of Rockwall, TX; brother, Richard Johnson (Patsy) of Cameron, MO; sister, Shirley Ann of Independence, MO; sister-in-law, Veronica Johnson of Harrisonville, MO; brother-in-law, Tom Horton of Bonnie Lake, WA; step-children, Jenna Ruegger of Wichita, Tim Matthews of Oklahoma City, OK, and several step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. No local services will be held. Memorial has been established with Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219. Downing & Lahey Mortuary West.
