Wendelin Patrick Schmidt, Jr., 84, Retired Petroleum Sales Manager, died Wednesday, July 28, 2021. Rosary will be at 6:00 pm, Sunday, August 1, 2021; Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday, August 2, 2021, both at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church. Wendelin grew up in a farming family and continued to be a farmer at heart by maintaining his large vegetable garden. He also enjoyed traveling and loved attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events. Wendelin was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of the American Legion. Preceded in death by his parents, Wendelin and Pauline; daughter, Mary Catherine; sisters, Margola, Melba. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Catherine Marie Schmidt; daughter, Sheryl (Patrick) Gallagher; sons, Jeffrey (Kim) Schmidt, Michael (Jana) Schmidt, Matthew Schmidt; sister, Norma; brothers, Irvin, Leon, Gary, Melvin; grandchildren, Cordel, Brooklyn, Cole, Sydney, Connor, Luke, Cooper, Emily, Logan; great-granddaughter, Paisley. Memorials have been established with: Holy Cross Charities, 1313 Steven Drive, Hays, KS 67601; and Serenity Hospice, 3221 N. Toben St., Wichita, KS 67226. Services in care of Downing & Lahey Mortuary - East Chapel.
