Janet L. Aikins

Janet L. Aikins, 78, Retired Educator, died Saturday, July 10, 2021 after a brief illness. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Masks covering the nose/mouth are required for the entirety of the service. Preceded in death by her husband, Terry Aikins; parents, Clinton and Nancy Ellington. Survived by her daughter, Sherry Aikins of Wichita; son, Brian Aikins and wife, Dr. Lynne Kallenbach of Leawood, KS; sister, Judith Lamperti and husband Ed Lamperti of Novato, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews. Janet and her twin sister were born to Clinton “Josh” and Nancy Ellington on October 25, 1942, in North Kansas City, MO. Janet and Terry were married on August 29, 1964 in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg (now Pittsburg State University) in 1965 with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. They moved to Wichita and both began their careers as educators in the Wichita Public School System. Janet left the classroom a few years later to raise Sherry and Brian. She returned to the classroom once again to Mueller Elementary in 1979. She continued as an educator at Mueller until her retirement in 1998.
