Margarethe Van Zandt Obituary Margarethe (Fast) Van Zandt, passed away October 5, 2021. Margarethe was born January 11, 1918, in Aberdeen, Idaho. Her mother Anna Kopper died three years later, and her father Henry Fast moved the family to Whitewater Kansas. She was raised in the Mennonite community and was a very strong Christian her whole life. She married Ted Van Zandt in 1949. They started boating and water skiing in the early 1950’s, and it continued to be a love for both of them. Life Magazine came and did a photo spread that featured them. Margarethe moved around the country as her husband’s job required - Seattle, Huntsville, New Orleans, Philadelphia - but was always rooted to Wichita, First Presbyterian Church, and their many friends and family. She was predeceased by sisters, Helen, Martha, Marie, and Ella; husband,Ted; daughter-in-law, Nita, and son-in-law, Marty. She is survived by her son, Jim; daughter, Barb, and granddaughter, Tracy. Margarethe was loved by everyone who met her. She had such a positive attitude. She will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral Service, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 9, at First Presbyterian Church. Graveside Service will follow at 2:00 p.m., in Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson. A memorial has been established with: First Presbyterian Church, 525 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67214.
