Claire Ann Voss

July 13, 1942 ~ February 9, 2022
Claire Ann Voss, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed into eternal rest at 4:19 pm on the 9th of February, 2022. Claire was born July 13, 1942 to Clair “Bud” and Alice Larabee in Cumberland, RI. After attending Rhode Island College where she earned her bachelors and masters in elementary education, she taught for three years. She met her beloved navy officer, Lieutenant Junior Edward Voss, at the Holiday Inn restaurant in Newport, RI, and they were married October, 2, 1971. After spending time in Guam, Ed and Claire moved to Wichita, KS then to Greenville, South Carolina where they had Joseph Edward. They then moved back to Wichita where they added Daniel Raymond and David Michael. Claire’s primary devotion was the care and love of her husband and three boys. She volunteered often at St. Patrick’s School and Pleasant Valley Middle School. She later worked at Northwest High School. She often enjoyed attending Wichita State basketball games, hosting gatherings with her closest friends, and reviving her Northeast accent with the couples she knew from Rhode Island. Her greatest joys were witnessing her two son’s weddings, seven grandchildren, and her youngest’s ordination to the Catholic priesthood.
She is preceded in eternal rest by her parents, Bud and Alice; uncles, Clement and Raymond; and brother, Raymond.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Edward Voss; nephew Michael Larabee; sons, Joseph, married to Heather (Farrand), Daniel, married to Cathy (Montbriand), and Fr. David. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kylie, Avery, Zoey, Chloe, Abigail, Max, and MacKenzie.

Claire is a dear soul. She used to help tutor young students at St. Patrick’s after school. She was so good with them and the students loved her. She helped many become successful readers. She was always so gracious in all she did. I know our Lord will give her comfort, rest, and peace.
Ed & family , so sorry for your loss. Pat & Jackie Burns
You’re going to get messed up on you son I know who you want your sons as it’s Avery’s Father David
It makes me smile when I hear Claire’s name. We had great conversations and fun together. Ed and Claire would drive from their home in Wichita, to Sibley, Iowa, to visit Ed’s family. (about a 7 hour trip in the “blue van”). Claire alighted from the van with a wonderful smile and hugs for everyone. (and this was after the trip with 3 young and then not so young boys needing to eat, drink and pee, and probably not all at the same time) I was impressed!! I drink a cup of tea to you Claire!
