Mary "Marty" Margaret Weeks

Mary Margaret Weeks was born in 1931 in Dodge City, Kansas. Her father was Richard Alison Gribble, a dentist. Her mother, Mydra Smith, died in 1934. She was known to everyone as Marty. She married Edward Wayne Weeks in 1950 in Dodge City. She worked as a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Wright. In 1951 she and Wayne moved to Wichita so he could finish college at what was then Wichita University. She worked as a telephone operator to help support the family. After her children were in school, she trained in the residential real estate business and worked in that field until she was 80 years old. In 1985, Marty became seriously ill with a mysterious illness. After some time it was identified as celiac sprue, which is intolerance to the gluten in wheat and some other grains. She became active as an advocate and advisor to people afflicted with the disease. She helped people across the world learn to shop for and cook food that is compatible with the disease. Marty was an asset to our city and civic life. She served on the Wichita City Council District Advisory Board and worked on behalf of her neighborhood, Bonnie Brae, where she lived for 52 years. She was a leader in Brownies and Girl Scouts on behalf of her daughters Susan and Ann. She and Wayne supported Botanica. She was a faithful member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church. But most of all, Marty was a wonderful mother. We will miss her very much. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her brother, Richard (Dick) Gribble; and a grandson, Nicolas Patrick Graf. She is survived by her son, Bob Weeks and wife, Lynn; daughter, Susan Kincaid and husband, Linn; daughter, Ann Graf and husband, Paul; grandsons, Ben Kincaid, Peter Kincaid and fiancée Lily Steiner, Julian Kincaid, Michael Graf and fiancée Samantha Nolting, and Alexander Graf. Memorial service Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 11:00 am at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. The service will be live streamed and available to view by clicking "Watch Event" below.
