Donald Dean Ziegler (Don), 91, of Wichita, KS, made it safely to heaven on April 29th, 2022. He was born on September 22nd, 1930 to Lloyd Charles and Maurine Ziegler in Salina, KS. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1948. Don married Kay (Thurmon) Ziegler on April 18th, 1953. Don is survived by his two children, Deborah (Charlie) and Donald Wayne (Patrice); his grandchildren, Amy (Jon), Charlie Jr., Jennie (Kacey), and Bryan (Katie); his great-grandchildren, Chase, Hayden, Rylee, Brooke, Kyndall, Kynlie, Korbyn, Kamdyn, Brooks, and Mason. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Kay, his parents and his brothers. Don enlisted in the Air Force on January 6th, 1952 and was a radar instructor as a Staff Sargent for three years before being honorably discharged on January 6th, 1956. As a young husband and father, Don was co-founder (with Kay) of Ziegler Electric where he worked hard for 60 years until he and Kay retired together on April 1st, 2020. It was the 60th anniversary of the family-owned and operated company. After God and his family, Ziegler Electric was Don’s next greatest pride and joy. Don was a long-time member of East Point Church of Christ (formerly Elpyco Church of Christ) where he served as a deacon for 40 years. Everyone who knew him will remember how much he loved to tease! Two of Don’s favorite hobbies were fishing and sports, especially basketball. He and Kay were WSU season ticket holders since 1953, rarely missing a home game. As much as he loved cheering on the Shockers, he loved cheering on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their various athletics and music concerts even more. His devotion to his family was evident in everything he did. God blessed Don with a true servant’s heart as he always put others above himself and set a wonderful example of generosity and selflessness. His life impacted many people, more than he probably ever realized, and he left a tremendous legacy of love. Visitation will be from 6:00pm - 8:00pm, Friday, May 6, 2022 at Downing and Lahey Mortuary East Chapel. Celebration of his Life will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at 10:00 AM at East Point Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Don and Kay’s wish to provide long-term care for their great-grandson, Korbyn, who is severally autistic. Please contact East Point Church of Christ for information on making donations.
