Margaret Russell Law

October 25, 1925 ~ May 19, 2022
Margaret Russell Law entered life on October 25, 1925 in Port Arthur, Texas and entered eternal life on May 19, 2022 at age 96 in Wichita, Kansas. She was the daughter of Patrick and Katherine (O’Connell) Russell. Her parents and her wonderful sister Lib preceded her in death.
She grew up in Beaumont, Texas. Her St. Anthony High School valedictory address, “Our Echoes Roll from Soul to Soul” was an analysis of what Tennyson meant and this formed the basis of her life. She emphasized that all of our actions, no matter how small, impact others, that we are all part of an immense community, and that our actions thereby echo across the world, and we therefore participate in the betterment of the whole human race. She talked the talk and then walked her talk for the next 80 years.
Following her graduation Summa Cum Laude from the University of Texas she married Edwin Law in 1948 in Tyler and lived in Dallas for a few years. After Ed’s military service during the Korean War they moved to Wichita for a job for Ed in the construction industry.
Margaret focused on raising her family. She was a loving enthusiast for her children and their children and their children. Throughout her life she was always ready to help her family, friends, and others. She volunteered from WW2, as Officer's Club hostess, on into her 90s including at St Joseph’s Hospital, The Lord’s Diner, and as a Eucharistic Minister and Eucharistic Adorer.
In her later years she took up bridge and enjoyed time with many players in Wichita. Her bridge crew (Margaret, Lindsay Gardner, Wyrill Lester, Esther Wilson) shared many bridge trips to New England, trips to Colorado, Arizona, and elsewhere including Alaska and Portugal. She enjoyed art classes at the Wichita Center for the Arts and created sculptures of her grandchildren that actually looked like them!
She is survived by her children, Pat (Yonina RIP), Mike, Greg (Cyd), Katherine (Bob) Eaves, and Jim; her grandchildren, Shannon (Ed) Otte, Sean, Crystal (Andrew) Simmons, Brett, Kaela, Lindsay (Rick) Hunter, Kerry, and Houston; and her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Maggie, Luke, Eli, Jude, Caleb, Rory, and Gideon. Also, by her sister Lib’s descendants, she was especially close to her niece Katie in later years.
Rosary will be at 5:00pm, Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Downing & Lahey East Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00am, Thursday, June 2, 2022, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, in the school gymnasium.
Burial will be with her parents at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tyler, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Lord’s Diner, 520 N. Broadway, Wichita, KS 67214.
Godspeed Margaret. A beautiful lady and a long and loving life well lived. A loving soul that will be dearly missed, and lovingly remembered. My sympathies to Margaret’s family, friends and loved ones..
Mrs. Law was a kind, wonderful, and gracious lady. She truly was beautiful, inside and out. If you ever wanted to understand why she did something, you could just think about how it would help the people she was with. She always put others first. Our family really loved her and will miss her, especially our son Chris, who used to call her his “no grandma Grandma” after his remaining official grandma had passed away. We have so many memories of fun times with her, and we want to share some with you in pictures. We look forward to honoring her in Tyler later this year. Our thoughts and prayers are with her wonderful family whom she loved so much.
